Disposal/Strainer Rim Insert (PP5452) Review

The strainer blends quite well with stainless steal sinks (there are also white and cream versions for other sinks) and will prevent utensils from falling into the disposal. It comes in pairs, so one can be installed over the disposal and another on the other side of the sink. However, contrary to the description, the basket does not fit into every sink drain (it does not fit mine). The strainer does an excellent job not allowing stuff to fall into the disposal, perhaps too good. The wholes are very small not only on the basket but also under it (the middle of the rim), so you'll have to remove not only the basket but also the rim insert to empty the food bits caught in the basket into the disposal. If you have a wire rack in the sink, you will most likely have to remove that before you can remove the rim ( I do). In addition, with water in the sink, it is hard to keep the basket from spinning and stopping the water completely. I found the much cheeper, drop-in plastic disposal strainers much more convenient (thought not as nice looking).
