(More customer reviews)We purchased a Whirlpool Trash Compactor for our new home 2and a half years ago. In less than a year the motor burned out with an accompanying odor of smoke. The repairman came, and ordered a new motor. He came back and installed it when it arrived. The new motor didn't work so he ordered another. After a few months this motor did the same thing. We began fearing it would end up burning our house down. The repair people said all they could do is order another motor. It was obvious something was causing the ram to stall and then burn out. We didn't want this to keep happening so we called Whirlpool. They said they didn't replace units, only fix them. After talking to several people and getting the same results, they said they would have the supervisor call. She never did. We finally got a new unit by going to the store who sold it to us, and they went to Whirlpool and argued for us.
So, now, after about a year and a half, the new unit has done the same thing.......smoke and all. I'm trying to find out if anyone has a class action suit going on these. The product number is a little different on mine, it is GX900QPPB, but I would not buy anything else from Whirlpool. Their customer service just stinks! As does this product.
Our previous Compactor, was a 24 year old Insinkerator. When we sold our house and it was still working great.
